The Jets QB Mark Sanchez and the Mets ace pitcher Matt Harvey both required
medical second opinions for recent injuries. And those second opinions from
renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews confirmed both athletes will be out for
the rest of the season.
Sanchez was sidelined after his shoulder was injured during a preseason game. Rumors that the star quarterback’s career is over are just that – rumors. Jets coach Rex Ryan said he is going to be a 100% healthy guy. His career might not be over but his tenure with the Jets is expected to end soon.
As for Harvey, he will be out for the entire 2014 season. He was hoping rest and rehabilitation would be enough to repair a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow but that wasn’t the case. His second opinion confirmed he would need
surgery.
Both men chose to get a second opinion so a proper diagnosis could be revealed and the proper course of treatment could begin. Second opinions are a necessary part of medicine
today with increasing numbers of medical errors and unnecessary procedures.
