USARAD.COM Launches National Outpatient Emergency Radiology Network

Novel Program Pairs Urgent Care Clinics with local Imaging Centers

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–USARAD.com launches a national program which caters to a new and growing national trend in healthcare, surge of urgent care clinics. Recent statistics demonstrate that patients access urgent care centers in great numbers due to convenience, quick service and decreased costs as compared to traditional hospital ERs. There are over 8,700 urgent care centers in the US today, approximately 4,500 of which are fully-fledged centers that would meet the criteria for a Certified Urgent Care center.

Despite many benefits, however, urgent care clinics are typically equipped to handle only relatively simple conditions such as minor trauma and common colds. One of the main reasons for such limitation is related to lack of advanced imaging modalities including CT, MRI and ultrasound to properly diagnose more complex conditions such as solid organ injury, brain bleed and appendicitis. Most urgent care facilities generally offer x-ray service only.

Over the past 6 months USARAD.com has participated in a small pilot program in Texas where an urgent care clinic shares a facility with an imaging center with USARAD.com providing 24/7 teleradiology service. There is no question that such an arrangement has already had a significant positive benefit on a local community with patients benefiting the most. More complex conditions can be diagnosed more quickly and efficiently and the patients can be discharged home rapidly without spending all night in the hospital, and at a fraction of hospital’s cost. Just like a hospital emergency room, advanced modalities including CT, MRI and ultrasound can now be offered 24/7 in an outpatient emergency setting with USARAD.com providing immediate radiology reports while the patient is waiting, with an average turn-around-time of just 15-20 minutes.

Michael Yuz, MD, MBA, USARAD.com founder and CEO notes, “USARAD.com is redefining the role of urgent care clinics by helping them to convert into mini outpatient Emergency Rooms and giving them immediate access to complex imaging modalities on a 24-7 basis. By connecting outpatient imaging centers with adjacent or local urgent care clinics, USARAD.com serves as a matchmaker in this process. USARAD.com offers service in all 50 states and is indeed best positioned to take such a program national.”
